I've been out of it for the past week.  I completely missed following the results of the Democratic primary in Pennsylvania.  I woke up Wednesday morning to hear that Clinton had won.  Don't count Obama out yet though.  (Interestingly I ended up in Pittsburgh at the end of the week.)

It is ridiculous that a business would essentially have to "import" gas from Mexico to stay afloat. Yet, the media wants to keep the presidential candidates focused on smear campaigns and non-issues. I would rather hear the candidates addressing real issues.

Gas prices are astronomical; the economy is down the tubes. Can we start talking about things that really matter instead of whether a candidate was scratching his face or not? Seriously.

I watch my web site statistics regularly to see how people find me. I normally do so both by using Google Analytics and by looking at the web logs directly. Here are a few searches from yesterday that have resulted in visits to my site.

At any rate, I believe I have found the answer to the Kenyans finding my site by mistake. If you are looking for information in the Republic of Kenya, use Google's Kenyan site. Note the difference in the search for taxis in kenya. Similarly if you are looking for YouTube videos about Kenya, do not search on Google but on YouTube instead. I do not use "Kenya" as a tag and my videos are not in the results of a search of Kenya.

I have to give some credit to Nil Simmonds who did a presentation called "Web 2.0 and Africa" as PodCampDC last weekend as I had not thought of this until I was listening to his presentation.

One thing that truly boggles the mind, besides the success of CBS's "Two and a Half Men" and the fact that not every stripper you come across accepts money for sexual favors, is the commonly regurgitated theme that Barack Obama had at one time received a "free ride" from the news media. Sure, he was a relatively new face in politics and people desperately wanted to know more about the Junior Senator from Illinois, but don't confuse that with the media ever being in the tank for Obama. Because to the trained eye nothing could be further from the truth. For one thing, like most star black athletes who are called "disruptive" when they publicly call out teammates, when their white counterpart is described as "showing leadership" for doing the exact same thing - I noticed that Obama was immediately a victim of the "adjective game" by many in the mainstream media. If Hillary was telling a group of supporters that she was the only candidate who could reform health care because of her years of experience on the matter, or if John McCain expressed in some interview how he was best positioned out of all the candidates to protect America based on his foreign policy credentials - both of them, more times than not, were characterized as being "confident". Obama on the other hand, exuding the same levels of confidence when talking about his ability to bring people together, or how he is the only candidate who can beat McCain come November, is often characterized as "arrogant" or "cocky". Out of the three remanding candidates, Obama is the only one I've ever seen described as "whining" when he responds to attacks, just further outlining how many people are truly threatened by an assertive black person.(See Michelle Obama). Then there was Farrakhan. You know what, they'd only ask a black guy to disassociate himself from a person who he has never had a personal relationship with - I'm fully expecting Tim Russert, during one of the presidential debates when Obama takes on McCain ...

I personally don't think that Black America should be voting for Barack Obama only because he would be the first Black president.  As such, I also don't agree with voting for Hillary Clinton because she would be the first woman president.

The issues are most important so I can't get behind what the author of this open letter to Tavis Smiley has to say.  I can understand it but I can't support it.  People who are voting for Obama only because he is Black are selling him short.  By that logic, Black people would support Clarence Thomas if he decided to run.  It is evident that some people believe this to be true; Republicans keep throwing Alan Keyes in elections to siphon off some of the Black votes.  Voters really need to find out what their candidate stands for.

Clinton misstates wife's Bosnia tale - Yahoo! News

In Indiana on Thursday, Bill Clinton defended his wife's mistake in claiming that she landed under sniper fire in Bosnia, accusing the media of treating her like "she'd robbed a bank" for confusing the facts.

Today Tom Joyner Morning Show listeners received the news that Tavis Smiley will no longer provide political commentary for the Tom Joyner Morning Show.  He has been providing that commentary for at least 12 years (that I personally remember).  He has organized listeners to be more politically conscious and involved in issues that affect Black America.

Even though, he does not say so, this undoubtedly has to do the all the flack he has received because of his criticisms of Barack Obama.  He has been ridiculed and even received death threats as a result of this.  How can someone who claims to support Barack Obama, who is about hope and unity, make a death threat?  I think that people who make death threats are cowards.  People can disagree civilly as Smiley and Obama did.  Obama doesn't need that kind of help to win this election.
