Government is the Weakest Link in Data Protection

This just keeps happening.  The government is the weakest link in data protection.  Encryption is easy these days and not doing so is just negligent.  Free credit monitoring for one year is not enough.  Whoever caused this to happen should be fired.

I am amazed that the government has such stringent requirements of financial and health care organizations in the form of GLBA and HIPAA.  Yet they can't get their own "stuff" together

A government laptop computer containing sensitive medical information on 2,500 patients enrolled in a National Institutes of Health study was stolen in February, potentially exposing seven years' worth of clinical trial data, including names, medical diagnoses and details of the patients' heart scans. The information was not encrypted, in violation of the government's data-security policy.
